Accessibility at McGowan Hall
This building went up in 1922. The main floor is accessible, the lower level is not, and we would rather you knew exactly what that means now than found out on the day of your event.
What is accessible
The Grand Hall is wheelchair accessible. That is our largest room, it seats four hundred, it is on the main floor, and it is the space we will recommend to anyone whose guest list includes someone who cannot manage stairs.
The main floor restrooms are handicap accessible. So a guest using a wheelchair can spend a whole event in the Grand Hall without needing to go anywhere else in the building.
Our parking lot has sixty five spaces and sits alongside the building.
What is not
There is no elevator anywhere in the building. Reaching the lower level means using stairs, with no alternative route.
The Council Room and the Bar Lounge are both on the lower level, so neither is wheelchair accessible. If you are considering either of those rooms for an event with older guests, this is the thing to weigh first.
There are no accessible restrooms on the lower level either, so anyone down there who needs one has to come back up the stairs.
Please call before you put a deposit down
If anyone coming to your event uses a wheelchair, walks with difficulty, or would struggle with a flight of stairs, call Jacob on (463) 842-1265 and talk it through before booking. Depending on what you are planning we can steer you to the Grand Hall, help you plan the running order so nothing important happens downstairs, or tell you honestly that another venue would serve your guests better.
We would far rather have that conversation in advance than have someone turn up to a family wedding and find they cannot get to the room.
Why we put this on its own page
Plenty of venues bury this in a paragraph on page five of a contract. It matters most for exactly the events our lower level rooms are best suited to. A baby shower usually means grandparents. A retirement lunch usually means someone whose knees are not what they were.
So it is written here, it is repeated on each room's own page, and our staff will raise it on your tour rather than waiting for you to ask.
