The room people book when the Grand Hall is too much
A hundred people in the Grand Hall looks like a hundred people in a room built for four hundred. The same hundred in the Council Room looks like a full house. That is most of the reason this room exists.
It gets used for baby and bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, birthday parties, retirement lunches, neighborhood association meetings, workshops, classes, book clubs and small receptions. Couples with shorter guest lists sometimes take it for the whole wedding rather than rattling around upstairs.
The sconce lighting is warm rather than bright, which photographs kindly and means you can decorate lightly and still have the room feel finished.
Stairs, and no elevator
The Council Room is on the lower level of the building. Reaching it means going down a flight of stairs, and McGowan Hall has no elevator. There are no accessible restrooms on that level either, so anyone who cannot manage the stairs cannot use this room.
This matters most for exactly the events this room is best at. A baby shower usually means grandparents. A retirement lunch usually means someone's knees. If anyone on your guest list cannot manage stairs, the Grand Hall upstairs is accessible on its main floor and is the better booking, even at a hundred people.
The Grand Hall upstairs is fully accessible, restrooms included. Call Jacob on (463) 842-1265 and talk it through before you put money down. We would rather move you upstairs now than disappoint someone on the day.
The same terms as the rest of the building
Bring your own caterer, with no preferred list and no food or beverage minimum. They cook off site and arrive ready to serve. For a room this size plenty of people skip catering altogether and bring platters in, which is fine.
Alcohol comes through our bar, and outside alcohol is not permitted on the property. For a shower or a meeting a cash bar is usually the simple answer. Prepaid open bar runs $20 a head for beer and wine or $30 for beer, wine and liquor, with a fifteen percent gratuity on prepaid and tab arrangements.
Decorate as much as you like. We ask for no confetti, because it gets into the floorboards and never fully leaves. Nails, staples, thumb tacks, glitter and aggressive tapes are out, and mylar balloons are not permitted. Candles are fine with prior approval. Everything you brought goes home with you the same night.
