What's on at the hall

We are not only a room you rent. The hall runs and hosts its own programme, most of it free or close to it, and all of it open to anyone who turns up.

A jazz quartet with saxophone, drums, upright bass and trumpet playing in the Bar Lounge
Every first Friday

First Friday After Party

The Christopher Pitts Trio, known as CP3, plays the Bar Lounge on the first Friday of every month.

  • Doors at 8pm, music from 9 until 11
  • Bar open, limited food available
  • Downstairs in the Bar Lounge
  • 1305 N Delaware St

It runs after the neighbouring First Friday galleries and events wind down, so it is the late part of the evening rather than the whole of it. If you are weighing the hall up for an event of your own, this is the easiest way to see the building in use without booking a tour.

The Bar Lounge runs its music nights under its own name, The Columbian. The programme, the room itself and details for bands who want to play are all on its own site.

Our theatre partner

Claude McNeal Productions

We work with Claude McNeal Productions, a non profit theatre company that puts on work with and for young people and adults across Indianapolis. Their productions play the Grand Hall stage, which is why there is a permanent stage at the north end of the room in the first place.

For show dates, tickets and anything to do with the productions themselves, go to their ticket page or contact the company directly rather than the hall. We will not know your seat number.

Also in the building

Dancing, brunches and the rest of it

Swing dancing

NapTown Stomp

Indianapolis's swing dance community uses the hall regularly. Lessons and social dances, beginners genuinely welcome. Check their own event listings for the current schedule, since the nights move around.

Monthly

Charitable brunches

The hall hosts monthly fundraising brunches, with proceeds going to the causes the Foundation and the council support. Open to the neighborhood.

Through the year

Concerts, dances and tours

Rock and jazz nights, salsa and swing lessons, art exhibitions, building tours covering the hall's history, and an annual children's Christmas party.

Dates and times

First Friday runs every month on the same schedule. Everything else moves around, so call (463) 842-1265 or follow us on Facebook and Instagram for what is coming up. If you would like to be told about public events by email, ask us to add you when you call.

Putting on your own

The hall is available for performances too

A permanent stage, a balcony, four hundred seats and a room that has been hosting concerts and theatre since 1922.

Musicians, dance groups, theatre companies and promoters hire the Grand Hall regularly. Weekday rates start at $2,400 for six hours. Call and tell us what you are putting on and we will tell you honestly whether the room suits it.
